Mantle of the Expert: Drama as a Learning Tool in Education

Mantle of the Expert (MoE) approaches learning and teaching from imaginary research .

It is a form of process drama in which drama is used as a learning tool. The aim is to achieve learning outcomes and development goals in an integrated manner, while stimulating and valorising the student's ownership, intrinsic motivation and a research-oriented attitude.

Mantle of the Expert is a drama method that offers education and arts education a wealth of possibilities. The basic idea: the participants work on their school curriculum as if they were a group of experts: scientists in a laboratory, archaeologists excavating a tomb, a rescue team during a natural disaster ... They don the figurative cloak of an expert and create together with their teacher a fictional world.

Bob Selderslaghs investigates what the method can mean in art education settings: can it balance an artistic process and product? How can MoE not only be used as a learning tool, but also as a learning objective?
