World Refugee Day: Audiovisual teaching materials

In this collection you will find image and sound fragments about World Refugee Day, together with more context and concrete teaching tips.

In 1951 the United Nations adopted the Refugee Convention. This is an elaboration of Article fourteen of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which states that 'everyone has the right to seek and enjoy asylum'. In 2001, on the fiftieth anniversary, it was decided to declare June 20 as World Refugee Day.

This series of fragments shows you the 'how' and 'why' people risk their lives in search of a better life. Economic, political, religious reasons or famine are just a few drivers.
