Overvoting: Simulation game about democracy and participation
Overvoting is a simulation game about democracy and participation that aims to give players a better insight into the powers of the federal and Flemish parliament.
The young people play the role of Flemish or federal representatives of the people. They are divided into parties and debate and vote on proposals for a decree.
IDEAL FOR
Young people from 16 years
GOALS
While playing, the players practice all kinds of communication skills and democratic attitudes:
- listen to each other
- develop and defend a solution together
- argue
- respect the opinion of others…
In the meantime, they become more familiar with our political authorities, institutions and the consequences of elections.
GAME DESCRIPTION
The players are divided into 6 fictional political parties and sit in the federal and Flemish parliament. As representatives of the people, they debate important policy points and vote on draft decrees, taking budgetary constraints into account.
Each party tries to mobilize as large a support base as possible and to increase its number of seats in the federal and Flemish Parliament.
The elections between the rounds indicate how many seats the parties actually win … or lose.
Realized in collaboration with De Kracht van je Stem!, the educational service of the Flemish Parliament.
