Plan B: Simulation game group processes

The players are confronted with the complexity of a society. They try to realize their own dream society. That is of course no easy task. Plan B is sometimes hectic and tense. There is discussion, negotiation and shouting. After the game, the players gain more insight into how they acted within the group and how the groups behaved among themselves.

Goals

  • promote active citizenship;
  • uncovering interactions within and between groups;
  • encouraging mutual understanding and cooperation;
  • clarify what role politics plays in a society;
  • The game also addresses subthemes such as the refugee problem and sustainability.

Game description
In the first phase, before the game really starts, the players are asked to write down which values they consider important in a democracy (e.g. fairness). The players are divided into three groups. Each group is given responsibility for a specific region on the game board. They choose a few values that are important to them as a region.

The game then starts on a very large game board. The regions must build a dream society together and are confronted with different situations during that process. They must build streets and purchase houses or apartment buildings to accommodate their growing population. They have to negotiate, plan community facilities, and take deadlines and highly fluctuating prices into account.
