GDPR at school

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is changing the way educational institutions handle student, staff, parent and other data subjects. This book describes the main effects of this General Data Protection Regulation on the functioning of schools by means of cases and examples. It deals with the situation for the different levels of education or umbrella organisations.

Some specific aspects that will be discussed:

  • Can a parent record a conversation with a (class) teacher without their knowledge?
  • Does the school need parental or student consent to create an account on a communication or practice platform?
  • From what age can students give their own permission for the publication of photos?
  • What about the processing of instructional videos and videoconferencing in distance learning?
  • Can schools be fined if they do not process personal data in accordance with the GDPR?
