STEM KOMPAS: Manual for STEM lessons

This manual mainly serves as a guideline and inspiration to shape activities/lessons around STEM (science, technique, engineering and mathematics). The target group of this manual are teachers, counselors and people with an interest in STEM-wise working with children. The STEM compass was developed in the context of a practice-oriented scientific research by Thijs Eeckhout: professionalization of the quality of (after) school STEM activities. The STEM compass describes how a STEM activity can be structured in terms of content and didactics. The quality aspect of the STEM activity is directly linked to this. Five recurring STEM phases are always discussed:

  • problem;
  • brainstorm;
  • design / research;
  • to test;
  • to evaluate.

Substantive and didactic points of attention are listed for each phase in this STEM cycle.
