Hugo Claus (1928-2008), The Sorrow of Flanders: Leiside
Hugo Claus (1928-2008) is the most awarded author from the Dutch language area. His best-known work is the novel The Sorrow of Belgium from 1983. The book is at the same time a political novel and an autobiographical development novel. The Sorrow of Belgium has been praised several times and is considered part of the canon of Dutch-language literature.
