Lucebert (1924-1994), Collected poems: Lesson idea

Lucebert, pseudonym of Lubertus Jacobus Swaanswijk (1924-1994), was the Emperor of the Vijftigers or Experimentals, the poets who brought innovation to Dutch poetry after the Second World War.

The so-called Movement of Fifty (1949-1954) attempted to provide a poetic response to the upheaval after the Second World War and to oppose traditional bourgeois poetry. His pseudonym combines the Latin word lux, which means light, with the Germanic word brecht, which also means light, bearer or bringer. So He is the bringer of light in the darkness. Lucebert thus refers to what he wants to be: a prophet and a revolutionary committed artist.
