Multatuli, The Japanese Stonemason: Teaching Idea

The story of The Japanese stonemason can be found in the eleventh chapter of Multatuli's Max Havelaar (1860). His source statement shows that Eduard Douwes Dekker did not make up the story himself, but thanks to him it has become known in our language area.

The story, which is actually not a fairy tale but a parable, is ideal for reading and discussion in lessons in which the literary genres are on the program.
