Joost van den Vondel, poems: Lesidee

Joost van den Vondel (1587-1679) was not called the prince of Dutch poets for nothing, because he excelled in almost all poetic genres.

In this learning tool you will become acquainted with his occasional poetry and his so-called satirical poems. These are all texts that belong to the canon of Dutch literature. Mourning poems for his deceased children are compared with some children's portraits from the golden age and similarities are sought between his socially committed poetry and contemporary protest literature.
