Colonial stereotypes in comics with Geert De Weyer: Lesfiche

In this master class, Geert De Weyer takes a closer look at the colonial vision and the stereotypical view of man that is expressed in many classic comics in five videos, with Tintin in Congo as a notorious example. Is the colonial propaganda in this strip innocent or is it flat racism that should be banned?

How do other countries deal with sensitive themes in the cartoon? Should humor in comics be politically correct? What do cartoonists themselves think about diversity in their stories?

Make your students think from different perspectives, guide them in a group discussion or let them get started with the comics themselves.
