Michaelina Wautier: Forgotten Women

Forgotten Women is an educational storytelling podcast about women from history who have achieved great things, but who have not (yet) secured their place in the history books.

In the very first episode I look at the historical context and life of Michaelina Wautier, a talented baroque painter from the seventeenth century. She managed to build an art career in the Southern Netherlands, was well known in bourgeois circles and could easily compete with painters such as Antoon Van Dyck or Jacob Jordaens. Yet the names of those gentlemen sound a lot more familiar to us.
