Impact teachers on fake news

In 2018 and early 2019, Annelore Deprez, Jeroen Naudts and Clio Janssens of Artevelde University College Ghent, study journalism and communication management studies news literacy among young people with regard to fake news.

The 2019 study shows that almost all young people (97%) have already heard of fake news. But one in 5 students fails to explain exactly what fake news is. Recognizing fake news is not easy either. After all, the 2018 study shows that only 3% of the young people surveyed succeed in correctly estimating the correctness of six news stories included in the survey, being fake or correct.
