Measurement culture in kindergartens, ready for the test?: Kindergarten


In pre-primary education, there are concerns about language skills. In some schools this has been a challenge for years and a lot of work is already being done. In other schools it has been an emerging concern in recent years. Flemish Minister of Education, Ben Weyts, commissioned the Center for Language and Education to investigate whether it is possible to develop a screening instrument that measures the language skills of 5-year-old infants in a reliable and valid way. Together with the implementation of the early compulsory education (pre-school children are already compulsory school from the 3rd kindergarten), this screening should ensure from the next school year that children have better language skills by the start of the first year.
